Program Overview
The July Summer Athletic & Enrichment Program is a collaborative initiative designed to holistically develop student-athletes in Caddo Parish. This program merges elite basketball training, Olympic-level strength and conditioning, and performance-focused sport psychology to equip young athletes with tools for success both on and off the court. With a foundation in physical, mental, and emotional development, the program aims to prepare participants for a strong start to the upcoming school year.
Summer Program Details
Program Dates: June 30 - July 31
Frequency: Twice weekly sessions (Basketball + Strength/Conditioning + Sport Psychology)
Location: LSUS/The HeartWork Institute
Participants: 30 Middle and High School Athletes (Grades 6-12)
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per session (includes on-court training, weight training, and workshop)

Basketball Skill Development
Led by The Heartwork Foundation, this component focuses on:
• Advanced skill training (shooting, ball handling, defense, court awareness)
• Game IQ and situational breakdowns
• Leadership and teamwork on the court
• Mentorship from trainers who have helped over 50 students secure college scholarships
Strength & Conditioning
Facilitated by 3x Olympian Kendrick Farris and the Bless The Gym team:
• Age-appropriate weight training and conditioning techniques
• Education on injury prevention and body maintenance
• Nutrition guidance for athletic performance
• Discipline, consistency, and physical confidence-building
Sport Psychology & Mental Wellness
Presented by Derrick Parker with Peak Athletics:
• Emotional regulation and mental resilience
• Performance visualization and focus techniques
• Goal-setting and progress tracking
• Understanding personal strengths and growth areas
• Group discussions to enhance peer support and confidence

Community & Enrichment Additions
Parental Engagement: One informational session for parents on supporting student-athlete growth
Wrap-Up Showcase: Final session highlighting athletic growth, reflections, and achievements
Post-Program Evaluation: Participant surveys and individual goal reviews to measure outcomes and future needs
